Connah's Quay moved up to second with a 2-0 win away at Cardiff Met.
Always going to be a tightly contested clash, the game failed to ignite in the early stages, the midfield battle being made more difficult by driving wind and sleet. It took until halfway through the half for a chance of note, Kyle McCarthy clearing off the line after Bakare had headed the ball back across the Met box.
Cardiff then broke up the other end, Rees crossing for Spencer who couldn’t connect cleanly with his header. Nomads began to put pressure on the hosts, Joel Edwards blocking Callum Morris’ goalbound effort before Fuller saved a follow up from Kai Edwards. Good work by Edwards and Jay Owen minutes later teed up Michael Bakare to curl home the game’s opening goal from 12 yards.
Nomads started the second half brighter. Poole almost broke through onto a loose ball in the Met box before Fuller recovered possession. The second goal did come though on 59’ through a mistake from Ben Bowler, who mis-controlled a pass to Jay Owen who raced clear into the box to slot home.
Met had a couple of chances after that, Roscrow breaking free on 74’ only to shoot wide, and Joel Edwards going close late on with a diving header. Roscrow though was then sent off late on, the forward shown a straight red by referee Richard Harrington for dissent, and Nomads saw the remaining time out to move into second.
