TNS stunned by late Spiders salvo

Saints exit IRN-BRU Cup on penalties after late drama at Park Hall

Queens Park win 4-2 on penalties

The New Saints crashed out of the IRN-BRU Cup in dramatic fashion at Park Hall as Queens Park won on penalties.

1-0 up with two minutes of normal time to play, Saints looked to have collapsed in dramatic fashion as first Smart Osadolor then Lewis Hawke converted goalmouth scrambles to put the Spiders in front and seemingly into the next round.

But Saints came back through Joash Nembhard, who's 95th minute leveller forced the game into penalties.

Saints had controlled much of the first half, and went in front on the half hour as Jon Routledge's shot from just outside the box hit the post and bounced in off the back of Queens' keeper Jordan Hart.

The home side couldn't add to the lead though, and slowly the visitors began to come back into the match after the break.

Routledge then saw red for a reckless challenge on Scott McLean, before the late drama send the game into spot kicks.

McLean opened the scoring, with Jamie Mullan and Ryan Brobbell missing the Saints' first two.

Scott Gibson also missed for the Spiders, but no more misses meant that Joshua Peters' strike sealed a Third Round berth for the visitors.
