Jones strikes win on the road for Llandudno

Seasiders become second side to beat Met at Cyncoed this season

Cardiff Met 0-1 Llandudno

Llandudno got their second win of the season this afternoon as they beat Cardiff Met at Cyncoed Campus.

Toby Jones' strike in the 70th minute settled a game that always looked like being decided by one goal, even if it came against the run of play in a second half that had been largely controlled by the home side.

The first half had seen the Seasiders have more clear cut chances. A Jones free kick in the opening minutes forced Esa Aalto into an early save, whilst John Owen also had a chance, having latched onto a long ball forward from Kai Edwards, but he could only send the lob over the bar.

For Met, Eliot Evans went close, some neat interplay between him and Dylan Rees allowing him to fashion space on the edge of the box to fizz a shot just wide of Shaun Pearson's goal.

Owen went close again midway through the half, picking up a cross at the back post but scuffing the shot wide.

Sam Snaith should have put Met in front towards the end of the half. Finding himself one on one with Pearson, the striker opted to go round the stopper rather than shoot early, and narrowed the angle for himself too much, firing into the side netting.

Met looked to have come out with more purpose after the break. Harry Owen in particular began to find joy down the left, sending an early cross fizzing across the face of goal.

Pearson was then called upon to make a double save, first from Evans who again found space just outside the box to let fly, then from a deflected Ben Bowler effort. Emlyn Lewis then headed a corner on target which Pearson was again equal to.

Having missed all of those chances, Met were then made to pay as Jones rifled home as the visitors made a rare foray into the their half. Lewis blocked Leo Smith's initial effort, but Jones picked up the rebound and danced into the box before lashing past Aalto.

The home side threw everything forward in search of an equaliser, but the visitors shut up shop effectively to ensure they returned north with the points.
