Bala enjoy Toner tonic

A goal by John Toner after only twelve minutes was enough to keep new boys Bala in the top ten and avenge their League Cup quarter-final defeat by the Quay in late October.

Looking to stretch their unbeaten run to four matches the frustrated Deesiders failed to claw back an equaliser battling gamely.

Toner grabbed the golden goal when he outjumped the home defence to steer a glancing header from a set-piece free kick just over the line but the Quay were unlucky to see Mike Hayes hit the bar and then Stuart Scheuber's fine effort from eight yards saved by 'keeper Leon Bimpson in the space of six frantic minutes near the break.

Bala continued to defend well as they narrowly shaved the second half honours without seriously threatening to widen the gap. The rusty Quay tired on the heavy pitch and looked off the pace after having their last two matches wrecked by weather. Bala can do a double when they entertain the Quay on New Year's Day.
