#JDWPL Saturday Roundup | Clinical Carmarthen win third straight game.

With Prestatyn’s clash against Barry Town United postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, it was left to Carmarthen and Newtown to create the day’s talking points. There were five goals scored between the two at Richmond Park. Read on to find out more.

Newtown AFC Scorers: Nick Rushton 67’, Kieran Mills-Evans89’

Chris Hughes’ Newtown started brightly at Richmond Park against The Old Gold as Jamie Reed and Ryan Kershaw both squandered early opportunities to put The Robins ahead, and the visitors weren’t quite at their best on the other end of the pitch either, as Liam Thomas capitalised on some poor defending after quarter of an hour to put the home side 1-0 up.

Aidan O’Kelly then sent a venomous strike through the hands of Jack Perry in goal for Newtown before nestling in the back of the net to make it 2-0 midway through the first half and leave the visitors reeling. It was a good start offensively for Newtown, but every defensive error was capitalised upon by the home side and hence why they found themselves two down. Two became three as the first half drew to a close, with Thomas netting again to give the home side a three-goal lead.

The visitors continued to challenge offensively in the second half, and they finally got their just rewards after 67 minutes when Nick Rushton tucked home to set up a somewhat nervy finish. The tension mounted even more in the last few minutes of the game as Kieran Mills-Evans made it 3-2 ahead of stoppage time, but Carmarthen held out to secure the win against Newtown.
