Seasiders’ play out draw to start Phase 2

Point apiece as both side’s winless runs continue

Aberystwyth Town 1-1 Llandudno

Aberystwyth and Llandudno had to settle for a point apiece as the two sides kicked off Phase 2 of this season’s JD Welsh Premier League on Friday night.

Geoff Kellaway’s goal fourteen minutes from time rescued a point for the home side, who had fallen behind to George Harry’s deflected goal on 17’.

New Aber signing Marc Williams had an early chance for the home side, as did Ashley Ruane, but it was Harry who got the opening goal, his shot from the edge of the box finding the bottom corner via a deflection.

Harry almost got on the end of a Toby Jones free-kick as the half wound down, but couldn’t quite meet it and it fell safely into the hands of Aber ‘keeper Terry McCormick.

Llandudno enjoyed the early pressure in the second half, but couldn’t force McCormick into many saves, although they did have the ball in the back of the net midway through the half, only for it to be ruled out by an offside flag from the assistant.

The visitors continued to press despite that, but an Aber counter led to Kellaway getting the leveller with a smart finish.

Ruane went closest for Aber in the final stages, whilst the visitors almost nabbed all three points in injury time, Jones having an effort cleared off the line.

Both sides though had to settle for a point, as their respective winless runs continued, though Aber did break an eight game losing streak with the draw.
