Saints return to top after Oval win

3-0 win moves Oswestry side above Nomads

Caernarfon Town 0-3 The New Saints

The New Saints went top of the JD Welsh Premier League with a 3-0 win away at Caernarfon Town.

In front of another four-figure crowd (1006) at the Oval, the fifth this season, Saints were quick out of the blocks, Jamie Mullan slipping a through ball into the path of Kurtis Byrne, who lifted it over Nick Bould onto the post and in to get his ninth goal of the season in the fourth minute.

Jon Routledge made it two on 38', his shot from just inside the box taking a nick off Jamie Crowther on it's way past Bould.

The home side did well to keep out a couple of chances early into the second half from Jack Bodenham and Chris Marriott, and almost pulled a goal back shortly after, Paul Harrison pulling off a double save to keep out first Darren Thomas and then a rasping Nathan Craig drive.

Two Saints subs then linked up for the third nine minutes from time, debutant Billy Whitehouse crossing for Greg Draper to head home.

Saints went back to the top of the table with the win, but Nomads can return to the summit should they beat Bala tomorrow.
