Barry Town United 0-2 Bala Town
Bala Town scorer: Andrew Burns 23’, Chris Venables 75’
A quick goal was scored by Bala in the original version of this fixture before it was called off, but Chris Venables threatened to do the same today as his near-post header from six yards out was saved excellently by Mike Lewis.
Lewis was to have a busy first half as Bala came out of the blocks on fire and through Henry Jones, Mike Hayes and Venables, they created very good chances to open the scoring, but were mostly frustrated in their efforts.
Hayes struck the side-netting, Jones hit the bar, Venables struck wide, and it was to be the right-back Andrew Burns who opened the scoring after rocketing a strike into the far corner from 10 yards out to make it 1-0 midway through the first half.
Barry’s best chances in the opening half came from Mo Touray and Jordan Cotterill, with both forcing Ashley Morris into action to prevent a goal for the home side, but the visitors were good value for their lead at the interval.
The second half saw Bala keep their foot on the gas, with a host of chances created by the visitors, but Barry did grow into the game as the second half wore on.
Morris looked confident between the sticks and dealt with the danger well, but his teammates were wasteful at the other end and missed a number of chances to make it 2-0. They did double their lead from the spot with 15 minutes to play, with Venables bagging the crucial goal, and the visitors secured their first win since Boxing Day with a superb performance.
