Jones heads Bala into Playoff Final

Lakesiders edge past Newtown in tight affair at Latham

Newtown 1-2 Bala Town

A header from Henry Jones sent Bala Town into next week's Playoff Final at the expense of Newtown in a tense and sometimes fiery clash at Latham Park.

Jones rose highest to meet Sean Smith's cross eight minutes into the second half to double the visitors' lead, after Kieran Smith had headed them in front just before the break.

Nick Rushton had the ball in the net earlier for Newtown, but the forward was adjudged to be offside.

Rushton then thought he had scored again eight minutes from time, only for the assistant's flag to go up again after the ball took a deflection on it's way into the net.

The Robins did eventually score two minutes from time through Joe Kenton, but it was too late despite a rally in stoppage time.

The Robins had the better chances in the first period, Rushton in particular forcing Keighan Jones into a reflex save moments before Smith put the Lakesiders in front.

The second goal forced the home side into changing their shape, but they struggled to create chances until the disallowed goal late on.

Bala await the winners of tomorrow's semi-final clash between Caernarfon and Cardiff Met at the Oval in next Sunday's Final.
